In times like this it can be hard to justify going out to eat at pricey restaurants, but as I have recently learned you sometimes have to go no matter what the situation.
Whether it be a loved ones birthday or a special occasion where you can not get away with ordering in or just heading to your local take away you should read this list of how to save money when going out to make sure that you don't overspend at restaurants when eating out. If you are out of work you may want to also read up on how to survive unemployment.
Restaurants have many tricks to ensure that once you come in you spend as much as possible to so that they can cover overheards, this might be making you wait at the bar while a table is being prepared or offering one member of your party a free dessert or tea in the hopes that it will lead to the rest of the table ordering extras for themselves.
If you read this list of saving money at restaurants and even take just one suggestion away you should start saving money on what you spend everytime you go out to a local restaurant.
Lets get on with the list already!:
- Have a drink before you leave home. Many restaurants will make you wait at the bar before your table is ready even if the restaurant is empty. The reason that they do this is to try make you buy drinks for you and your party, the mark up on beverages is huges and where alot of restaurants cover their overheads. Be smart, don't fall for the trap. Don't be one of those fools that drinks and drives though!
- Do not drink mineral water at the restaurant. Always ask for standard tap water. Most restaurants only bottle tap water and sell it for more to you anyway so be smart. When the waiter asks just say you want tap water. Most mineral water does not have actual minerals in it but is mostly just purified water, most restaurants just run the tap water through a filter or a purifer, nothing wrong with just ordering tap water and adding some lemon to get some added freshness.
- Don't order speciality/fancy drinks. Order house wines instead. No girl worth your time will ever be impressed by your knowledge of wines. Trust me. Be a Man.
- Don't fill up on the bread, have one piece and ask your server to take it away.
- When you order, order a appetizer another one as you main dish and another as a side dish. You can have your friend or companion do the same and that way you can sample half the menu. With this you can avoid the cost of a expensive main dish, this will also make sure that you don't overstuff yourself.
- Share your dessert. not only is it romantic but it will also make sure that you are not over doing it on the calories. By the time you have had your dinner dessert is just to give you something sweet to eat rather than fill a void in your stomach, so be smart and share it.
- Instead of spending money for coffee at the restaurant pay your bill and take a walk to a small coffe shop or bistro. Not only wil this help you save money on your bill, if you are on a date it will also lead to making your date more comfortable with you. It will feel like you have been on two dates rather than one, and she/he can also see how you operate in a different environment.
