First things first, this is not going to be one of those weight loss articles that will tell you that you can lose weight by just thinking positive. Thinking positive was an important part of the weight loss process but you have to understand that you need to light that fire under your butt, get off the sofa and hit the gym!

People may tell you that you can lose weight by thinking you can and just living your life, but unfortunetly you did not gain weight by doing nothing you poured food into your body every single day without thinking about what the consequences would be like.

When I was overweight I use to make fun of people that counted calories or decided not to go out for a meal because they had already ate. I would actually make fun of them calling them light-weights. If you were not able to finish the food on your plate complaining of a full stomach I would call you a quiter. If you had offered me salad I would literally abuse you for trying to feed me rabbit food!

This is how bad it was for me, I was overweight and gaining more day by day and I did not think that I had a problem.

I did have it in the back of my mind that I could easily lose all the weight I wanted to in one month as I had done it before, no one believed me but I knew that I could easily lose the weight I wanted to in one month.

And believe it or not I was looking respectable after one month, but for the first time in my life I decided to renew my gym membership for more than one month.

The thing that made me want to lose weight was my mom, I went to pick her up at the airport one day after about 4 months, and instead of hugging me or asking me how I was doing she looked me dead in the eye and said you have to lose weight or you will cause serious harm to yourself, I joined the gym that day.

The rest of the article will discuss the diet I used and how I excercised.

Before we get into the excercise routine Im going to tell you what I did with my diet to make sure that I would start losing weight.

I calculated what my caloric intake is when I was resting, it worked out to about 3500 calories.  That is how many calories my body would burn whether or not I excercised.  To put that into context for you the average male's normal calorie intake is about 2500 calories.

To burn one pound of fat you have you burn 3500 calories.

Most "gurus" suggest that instead of eating 3 square meals a day you should eat 6 small meals a day.  I tried to do this for the first few days but could not find the time or the energy to do this. This is probably the best way to do it but the way I live I could not really get around to eating six small meals a day.

My diet consisted of the following:

Breakfast: Standard bowl of cereal with semi-skimmed milk.  NO CINNAMON GRAHAMS OR SUGAR FROSTED GARBAGE. My cereal is probably the nastiest I ever had it is called special k, and while it does not taste nice it does help to tide you over to lunch.  The reason is because this is actually healthy cereal that has the nutrients that you need rather than the taste that you want.

Lunch: I usually take lunch at about 1:00, my standard lunch consists of a can of tuna.  Thats it.

Dinner: Whatever I want, I usually have dinner after my workout that lasts from 2-3 hours so I do not try to diet here.

Notes:

  • When I first started the diet, for dinner I would only have a 2 tuna fish sandwiches on brown bread.  After the 3rd week I was able to go back to my standard dinners.
  • You are allowed one cheat day a week.  This is the day that you can eat ANYTHING that you want, go nuts, not only will it help you get through the week it will also lead to a metabolism spike that will help to make sure that you are still burning those calories.
  • I sometimes have a cup of coffee before Lunch.  I add one spoon of sugar and one sweetner, please try to cut out the coffee if you can
  • Notice I don't drink juices or soda?  I used to drink a 2 litre bottle of Coca cola everyday without blinking, now I have brought myself down to one can of diet coke a day usually with my dinner, this is after 5 months though.
  • Fruit Juice is just water with sugar in it, the box may say no added sugar but fruit already has natural sugar in it, and when they make juice they are usually taking out all the other nutirents from the juice.
  • On my cheat days I eat stuffed crust pizza, and have still managed to lose weight so dont fret.
  • If you sometimes give in to temptation and have a bag of potatoe chips or a candy bar please do not fret, ignore it pretend it did not happen.  If you start thinking about it you will just demotivate yourself and start to think about eating something else as you have already fallen off the wagon.

I am not at a point where for the first time in my life I am proud of my body image, I can't belive it.

I think that this post has gotten a bit longer than I expected so i will be discussing my excercise routing in another post, I will add a link to it here when it is completed.

Excercises

I have started a series on the excercies that I used to achieve this weight loss, the first part of the series is the excercies I used for my Chest.

I find special k delicious, lol. My favorite kind was this special diet variety that tasted sweet and delicious. Tuna sounds gross.

I used to like the one with the freeze dried strawberries, but have stopped doing that now.

Great hub. I find Special K delicious too, but I eat Cheerios for my cereal. Lots of fiber and made from oats to help with cholesterol. As for coffee, I would actually recommend coffee if your heart can take the stimulation. Coffee, when taken with no sugar and dairy is a great way to give you a quick boost in energy and metabolism. Just be careful of the "crash." One cup of black coffee = 5 calories.

Interesting concept the junk day, idk if i agree with it or not. Your just working all week to burn off those calories you consumed. Might work for guys, but not so sure for women, cuz they hang onto fat a lot easier.

The cheat day/cheat meal is actually pretty important. Your body is always trying to "survive", so if you ever make your body think that it's "starving", it'll go into famine mode and store fat into reserves. The cheat meal is reassurance to your body, letting it think "oh, i don't need to store as many reserves, I get food once in a while." This is why 6-7 mini meals is better at keeping metabolism up instead of 3 regular meals a day.

You have to have a cheat day. Usually, when you have a cheat day, you don't eat that much junk because you're body's gotten used to the healthy stuff. The junk food doesn't taste as good as it used to.

I eat tuna 3 or more times a day, but I heard you can get sick if you eat it more then once every three day.
