How to get a Job in A Sales Call Center or How to get a Job in a Outbound Call center as a telemarketer
67Telesales or Telemarketing or Phone Monkey
If you are in the workforce chances are that at one time in your career you have had to work in a call center, everyone hates these jobs, everyone makes fun of these jobs. They are usually the first step in your career though, and the things that you will learn by working in a large call centre will help you in almost any other job that you ever work in for the rest of your life.
You do not want to be stuck in a call center for ever, but whilst you are there you have to decide to take everything you learn and absorb it like a sponge.
Before you start though you have to get the job, the rest of this post will explain what you need to do in specific detail to make sure that you get the job at the call centre.
I have personally helped over 100 people get jobs in call centers, everyone with no experience up to someone that has worked in call centers for over 20 years. So please pay attention.
Before you read this post you many want to check out How to get past the first job interview to secure your position in the new company, that post talks about what you should do during and before the interview to make sure you don't come off as a complete idiot. This post will talk about what you should answer to specific questions.
The Test
Usually when you apply for a job in a call center you will be asked to to come in for an interview. Before the interview even starts they will ask you to take a test. These tests are very simple, they usually consist of both a english section and a math section.
Again, they are very simple. If you can not take and pass this test you probably do not deserve to get this job.
English Test:
The english test usually consists of a few paragrahps that you have to read and than either fill in the blanks or explain what was said. Really if you can read a paragraph and than explain what it is about you will no doubt pass this test.
Math Test:
The math test is pretty simple again. They just want to see if you can do basic math. For example if you are selling cell phones and the customer wants a 10% discount on what you are selling, you have to be able to calculate what 10% off $100 is. Really basic and simple stuff that you need to be able to do. If you are provided with a calculator use it.
Cheating:
Do not try to cheat, they usually interview 10-15 people at the same time and will leave you in the room alone. The temptation to cheat will be high, but more often than not you will be either on cctv or someone in the room might be a mole. So always pretend as if you are being watched and DO NOT CHEAT.
The Interview
The interviews in call centre's are usually competency based interviews.
A competency based interview is when the interviewer will ask you questions based on real world examples and they want to see how you would answer the question.
No matter what the question they are looking for 3 things in your answer so follow this formula.
- Understanding the question/problem
- Breaking down process to get result
- Following results to see if the process worked
So for example if you are asked a question like: Give an example of a time that you have to work as part of a team to answer a customers questions.
The interviewer is looking for a specific example of 2 things, 1 when you have worked as part of a team and 2 when you answered a customers question.
For the people that have never had a job you can use examples from College or School, where you have worked as part of a team to come to a solution.

Mujibar was trying to get a job in India .
The Personnel Manager said,
'Mujibar, you have passed all the tests, except one.
Unless you pass it, you cannot qualify for this job.'
Mujibar said, 'I am ready.'
The manager said, 'Make a sentence using the words Yellow, Pink, and Green ..'
Mujibar said, 'The telephone goes green, green,
And I pink it up, and say, Yellow, this is Mujibar.'
Mujibar now works at a tech call centre.
No doubt you have spoken to him. I know I have.
